Water Management

Water management is the process of planning, developing, distributing, and optimizing the use of water resources in a sustainable manner. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including the treatment of water to ensure it is safe for consumption, the efficient distribution of water to homes and businesses, the conservation of water resources, and the protection of water quality from contaminants.

Key Aspects of Water Management

  • Water Supply and Distribution:

    Ensuring there is a reliable supply of water for residential, commercial, and industrial use. This involves the development and maintenance of infrastructure such as reservoirs, pipelines, and treatment plants.

  • Water Quality:

    Monitoring and treating water to remove harmful contaminants and ensure it meets safety standards. This includes regular testing and implementing advanced filtration and treatment technologies.

  • Water Conservation:

    Promoting the efficient use of water to reduce wastage. This includes public awareness campaigns, incentives for using water-saving devices, and implementing policies to encourage conservation.Sustainable Use: Managing water resources in a way that meets current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This includes protecting natural water sources and planning for long-term sustainability.

With decades of experience in water resource management, my background equips me to address the water needs of Santa Clarita Valley effectively. Here are a few highlights of my past experience and how it will benefit our community:

  • Development of Comprehensive Water Plans: During my tenure as General Manager of the Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA), I led the development of a number of Urban Water Management Plans. This plan provided a strategic roadmap for ensuring a reliable water supply through buildout of the Santa Clarita Valley. It involved collaboration with multiple agencies and provides the water supply information for the City of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County General Plan Updates for the Santa Clarita Valley.

  • Implementation of Advanced Water Treatment Technologies: I implemented advanced water treatment solutions, including ozonation and chloramination, to ensure the highest water quality for our community​.

  • Addressing Water Quality Concerns: I have extensive experience in dealing with water quality issues, including managing the risks associated with contaminants like PFAS. My proactive approach to monitoring and treating water supplies ensures that our community has access to safe and clean drinking water​ (Valley Water)​.

  • Enhancing Water Conservation and Sustainability: Promoting water conservation has been a key part of my career. I have developed and implemented programs to encourage efficient water use among residents and businesses, helping to reduce water wastage and ensure the sustainable use of our resources​.

  • Navigating Regulatory Compliance: Water management involves navigating a complex landscape of regulations. My experience ensures that we remain compliant with all state and federal requirements, avoiding potential legal issues and maintaining the highest standards of water quality and regulatory compliance.
